MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The Year in Review!
"2022 was a year full of excitement, challenges, triumphs, and failures."

I bring greetings on behalf of the National Association of Black Women in Construction's Board of Directors.

Overall, 2022 was victorious. As I reviewed my excessive notes from a wide array of NABWIC engagements throughout the course of the year, I am encouraged.

Whether it was facilitating sessions to support our members, volunteers, and/or leaders in their ability to navigate our platforms and templates; or coordinating our engagement with USDOT Secretary Buttigieg; it is all forward movement. While many of the fresh ideas I was ever so passionate to champion at the beginning of my term seemed to be beyond our reach, so much growth came from being stretched and pulled into uncharted territory.

Who knew we would be at the table with USDOT Secretary Buttigieg as the largest bipartisan infrastructure law was passed? The opportunity for us as unapologetic black women to advocate for ourselves and our communities at this level is an honor and a privilege. Together through establishing and elevating strategic partnerships with organizations like USDOT, MBDA, Women of Color Contract Equity, AMAC, COMTO, AASHTO, AWWA, NABHOOD, and many others, we continue to elevate our voices, creating strategic environments that support entrepreneurial, educational, professional, and social network connections.

Establishing ourselves as contributing solutionaries, our Vice President Caleena Shirley and the legislative committee supported our meaningful response to the USDOT’s Notice of Proposal on Rulemaking. Our event committee, chaired by NABWIC Officer Kerry Williams, supported the flawless execution of our Billion Dollar Luncheon programs, time and time again bringing forth Billion Dollar Programs, prime firms, elected officials, and our membership to advocate, educate, and raise awareness, providing more equitable access to contracting opportunities.

It is the SPIRIT. We are one. I am so honored to serve as the President of this outstanding organization, working shoulder to shoulder tirelessly as we forward our mission together.

Let's make 2023 the best year yet!
