More than 100 people attended the National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC) Billion Dollar Virtual Luncheon in Port Contracting Opportunities on Wednesday, April 13. The vision of NABWIC is to build lasting strategic partnerships with first-rate organizations and individuals committed to providing groundbreaking and innovative solutions for Black women in construction and their respective communities.

The luncheon allowed members to connect with more than a billion dollars in new port contracting opportunities across the country. AECOM, Jacobs, WSP, and the Minority Business Development Agency are some of the sponsors of the event.

During the luncheon, NABWIC presented the Woman in the Spotlight Award to Kenyatta Lee, Interim Chief of Staff and Chief of Modal Development at the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Lee is a seasoned, results-driven leader with 30 years of experience in the transportation industry. She recently joined FDOT, where she oversees Florida’s comprehensive multimodal network that includes the Offices of Aviation, Freight and Multimodal Operations, Seaports, Spaceports and Transit.

Innovative and trendsetting leaders nationwide in the port industry shared upcoming opportunities to work with their organizations. The keynote speaker for the luncheon was Jorge Chavez, Assistant Director of Capital and Port Planning for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Port Department. Guest speakers included Christopher J. Connor, President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Port Authorities; Lucinda Lessley, Acting Administrator of the USDOT Maritime Administration; and Brenda C. Trevino, Director of the Technical and Business Analytics Department of the Port of Houston.
