Powerful Parties with a Purpose and a Plan

Powerful Parties with a Purpose and a Plan

“Long-term perspective turns out to be more important than family background, education, race, intelligence, conversations, or virtually any other single factor in determining your success in life and work.” – Dr. Edward C. Banfield

As we build for the future, we are learning and reimagining our strategy with a long term perspective, which is turning out to be most important to the future of our businesses. Therefore, during the 51st Annual Legislative Congress ALC, we partied with a powerful purpose and a plan, while taking a longer term perspective in Washington D.C. in order to cash a check. This was an excellent opportunity, platform, and strategy to achieve our mission, vision, and goals in the construction industry, as we connected with Congressional Representatives, Secretary Pete Buttigieg, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and federal procurement agencies and directors.

I am reminded of Martin Luther King’s “I have a Dream” speech delivered on the 28th of August, 1963. It best describes why NABWIC goes to Washington, D.C. for the Congressional Black Caucus. King said, “One hundred years later, life and business of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself in exile on his own land. And so, we’ve come here today to dramatize a shameful condition. In a sense we’ve come to our nation’s capital to cash a check.”

This is why NABWIC goes to Washington to the Congressional Black Caucus every year. It best describes why NABWIC goes to Washington, our Nation’s Capital to cash in on a four trillion-dollar check.

My first visit to the Congressional Black Caucus was to support our first black lawmaker elected in the State of Florida. In 1992, Congresswoman Carrie Meeks was elected to the US House of Representatives Florida 17th Congressional District. A large group of African Americans from South Florida accompanied her on the momentous trip to Washington. I have made that trip ever since. As I grow to better understand the power of politics and partying with a powerful purpose, I am more committed to ensuring that I share this experience with others strategically by bringing them with me. Since 1994 we have hosted an event at the City Club of Washington during the Caucus. This year we had over 1500 to register for our event and close to 300 showed up to join us in Washington, D.C. on the 28th- 30th of September, 2022.

T.D. Jakes described a strategy as a synchronized, step by step plan from point A to point B. We at NABWIC are reimagining our strategies, updating our strategies, and creating a synchronized, step by step implementation plans, which include powerful political parties with a purpose.

Our strategic planning sessions and reception would not be possible if not for the support of our sponsors, large and small. Thanks to our sponsors, planning committee, leadership, and members who made this momentous occasion a great success.

Our challenge and call to action for you is to connect with us as we continue to help grow your bottom line.
